Lorrie had received a very strong massage with a neck adjustment at the end that was incredibly forceful. This treatment four weeks previously resulted in severe pain along the Trapezius, GB 20-21 mainly on the right and along the outer UB channel to UB 46-UB 17 ish. The left hand side the pain was mainly from GB 20-21. She had a history of tight shoulders and thought for some time that this was the cause of her pain. She has had Hep C for about 10 years also.
Lorrie had tried physiotherapy and found it very painful, she remembered that previous treatments with abdominal acupuncture had been very effective and decided to come in for a session.
Treatment used was relatively minimal Ren 12 & 4, was my foundation, I located an ahshi point a little lateral and inferior to Ren 11 (Jianli), on the right which represented the pain at GB20, I then located ahshi points between Ren 10 (Xiawan) and Kid 17 on both sides, a couple of ahshi points brought the pain down to approximately 4-5, Lateral to Ren 9 (Shuifen) on the right about 0.4cun I found some more slight nodes like strings and needling these to a depth of around 0.4 – 0.5 cun, which gave a great result and resolved the pain in the back around T-7 or UB 18 (Ganshu). I then needled St 24 (Huaroumen) bilaterally to a depth of 0.4 cun to move Qi up to the shoulders. I then penetrated the elbow point (Ab 1) on the right to a depth of 0.75 cun to address the long term Liver issues.
Finally I used bilateral Kid 13 (Qique) to both send essence to the upper back and neck area and also to help strengthen Liver essence also on account of the chronic Hep C condition (Fig 1)
The reference score and mobility changed from 10 down to 2 or 3 all over and Lorraine drifted off to sleep for the remainder of the treatment. She left feeling totally pain free and completely relaxed.
The next visit was a week later and Lorraine reported that her shoulder and neck pain had eased even more over the few days immediately following the treatment. She said her sleep and disposition had been much better, even given the fact that she had just given up smoking!
